frequently asked questions

What is the School of Social Justice?

An online education platform for people who want to learn how to address society’s major problems.

Who is involved?

The school is founded and led by Alvin Carpio, a campaigner who has fought for social justice for over two decades. We have a team of creative talent who produce and edit video content, an events team, and a team of strategic advisors.

Where is the school located?

We are digital-first, and publish our content on this website, YouTube, and Spotify, and across other major social media channels.

What methods will the school use?

First we will launch a video podcast. These are conversations with changemakers which uncover their impact, how they achieved change, what challenges they faced, and what lessons they learned. We employ the Socratic method of learning through dialogue.

What traction has the school had so far?

We have filmed our first series of interviews with inspirational changemakers who have created laws, built movements, and influenced culture. They are from multiple sectors and industries, and come from diverse backgrounds with a variety of perspectives.

We have recruited a team of creatives who have directed and produced educational content for an international audience.

How has the school been funded so far?

We received a small grant from the Churchill Fellowship in September 2021. Most of it has been funded by Alvin Carpio’s personal contributions and voluntary contributions from patrons.

How will the school become financially sustainable?

We will seek support from patrons through monthly supporter contributions. If we reach 2,000 patrons, we will be able to consistently produce one video a week throughout the year. If we surpass that level, we will be able to grow the school, produce more content, and reach and teach more people around the world.

When will the educational content be available?

We will start publishing our first video podcast series to the public from Monday 11th July 2022. One episode will be launched every week.

How much does it cost?

Our video podcast is free.

How will you work with other organisations?

We want connect our audiences with organisations that are working to achieve real change. We will do this by partnering with amazing businesses and nonprofits, to help them reach new audiences and recruit great talent. We will also support organisations who want to learn how to make a difference.

What impact does the school seek to achieve?

Our mission is to teach 10,000 people how to impact the lives of 100,000 people each, so that 1 billion people’s lives are improved.

What is the long term vision?

We strive to create a world where people can learn the skills, tools, strategies, and tactics that have changed the world, so that anyone can make a difference. Our dream is to train the next generation of Martin Luther Kings.
